Making, At The Bench

At ‘Of Silva’, we create sculptural fine objects and jewellery pieces, designed to inspire moments of stillness, ritual and connection with every day life.

Our collections are cast locally in London using both precious and non-precious metals, including gold, silver, bronze and brass - Materials chosen for their grounding weight, longevity and sensory qualities.

Studio Manifesto

Our Approach, to silversmithing

Each piece starts with ‘play’ : An organic, intuitive practice, embracing various artistic mediums (materials) and manipulating these, without precision, boundaries or expectations.

An individual design is developed through a tactile, hands-on process of sculpting, (often clay) first and then carving wax, allowing organic forms and textures to emerge naturally through making.

Rooted in phenomenological thinking and informed by on-going research into wellness, meditation and material experience - Our objects are designed to be beautiful but also, to serve a purpose - And a purpose that goes far beyond ‘functional’. Our objects hold space through emotional resonance.

The development of a collection is always first inspired by our own research and personal grounding practices - Whether it’s from sitting in stillness, moving on the mat or an immersion in nature, we find meaning and a reason to create. And even when the inspiration comes from inside, we often look to the outside environment, to our natural world, to further develop form, texture, tone, quality & ‘mood’.
